Experience the refined, sculptural possibilities of anticlastic raising in a focused three-day workshop taught by master goldsmith Jordan Barnett-Parker, longtime apprentice and ongoing collaborator of world-renowned designer Michael Good, the originator of this technique. Jordan brings a direct lineage of expertise and decades of hands-on knowledge, offering students a rare opportunity to learn authentic anticlastic methods—from foundational movements to advanced hollow forms—in an engaging, supportive, and creatively charged environment.
What You’ll Make
- Hyperbolic Paraboloid Extension (Saddle Form) Begin with a square of 26g bronze as you learn to create tension-driven curves, control compression, and develop a feel for directional hammering..
- Open Hollow Bangle (Closed Spiculum Form) Expand your skills by raising a hollow bangle bracelet that uses a closed spiculum shape—but with an unsoldered “open” seam that creates an elegant, airy profile.
- Round Hollow Spiculum Earrings with Forged Tapered Wires The final challenge brings everything together: raising a closed round spiculum earring and hand-forging a tapered earring wire that springs perfectly back into the form.
- This is a deeply rewarding project that showcases the true magic of anticlastic movement and precision forming.
- Tools & Materials • Complete tool kits provided for class use, available for purchase afterward as a full set or à la carte. • Useful optional tools to bring: Cross peen hammers, planishing hammers, mandrels, Delrin hammers, small sinusoidal stakes, scribes. • Primary materials: 24g & 26g bronze sheet (students may bring silver or gold).
